By reading the article, Snooping Bosses, I get different thoughts running trough my head. I understand that the boss wants to trust his employers to do their work but isn´t there another way? Some control is good but there must be a stop somewhere. When one in the staff phone in sick and the boss is tracking him down and finds out that he is out somewhere else and not sick. I think that´s wrong if it happens only once in a while but in more frequently occasions it can be questioned. But what is the boss´s purpose? Shall he fire the person in question or what? It will probably be a lot of misunderstandings when the staff is questioned maybe the person who called in sick really was sick and had to visit a hospital for advice then it´s not fun if the boss think you are trying to get off work. I think this will lead to a dispute between the employee and the boss which is not good for the working situation. If one in the staff is not getting his work done, then the boss can have a discussion with that person, I don´t see a reason why everyone should be affected.
To keep a good environment in a company is it very important that the staff feel trusted by their boss. To watch over their every step is not trust. Of course there are always people who can’t be trusted but you can´t suspect everyone.
A professor at Karlstads University has done a research about surfing the web when you are at work. The results was that it was good for you and for your working performance, the human brain needs a few brakes from hard work and visiting websites like Facebook when you are at work can help you to perform better with your work task. It can also be good to talk to other persons in the same position as you at work and social websites like Facebook can be a good place for such meetings. Many people around the world are watching porn on the internet, this is impossible to stop. But of course this should not happen at work.
